About the Role
We are a group of students & recent graduates creating a platform for Scotland’s Refugees to share their voice through art. Through a research-driven educational campaign, we use our online presence and creative events to raise awareness in the local community about what it means to be a refugee, with the vision of a welcoming and accepting society.
We are looking for an Events Officer for our COLOURS 2019 - 2020 team. The successful candidate will be working with the Event Lead and the arts team with 5 dedicated, skilful and highly motivated volunteers. The ideal candidate should be organised, socially driven (specifically within the issues surrounding refugee and asylum seeker integration) and have experience planning, organising and executing high-quality events (ideally of the socially-focused or creative nature).
The Events Officer’s main focus will be supporting the Events Lead, assisting with event logistics and help plan, manage and run a variety of COLOURS events during the year.
Raising awareness amongst thousands of people about the issues facing refugees and asylum seekers, helping to challenge misconceptions and negative perceptions
Make lifelong friends that have similar interests and a similar mindset to you
Real-world experience in scouting and managing event venues, suppliers, and speakers
Experience in event organisation and coordination, logistics, and risk management
Make valuable connections to add to your network, especially within the creative and third sectors
Add an impressive role to your CV that demonstrates tangible skills and professional experience within arts and social enterprise/third sector.
Be a part of a social enterprise with high growth potential and potential future internationalisation
Emailing & liaising with vendors, suppliers & potential venues
Ensuring the rest of the COLOURS team is briefed on event dates, schedule and logistics ahead of the event date
Coordinate volunteers on the day of the event
Help the events lead make actionable plans fed from the arts lead & head of creative
Help make our events more inclusive and accessible through risk management
Socially driven with the aim to use theirs skills to better the world
Friendly, approachable and understanding
Adept at building and managing relationships
Well-organised and detail oriented
Interested in both the Refugee Crisis & Art
Organisation & MS Office Skills
